Modern zoos teach the importance of conservation, sustainability and environmental awareness. The blockbuster exhibit at the Baton Rouge Zoo, ‘Realm of the Tiger,’ will immerse guests in the continent of Asia, featuring tigers, Siamang gibbons, a walk-through aviary with Asian birds, plus a Koi pond and rock garden. The exhibit's goal is to help raise awareness of threats to tigers, raise funds for tiger conservation and raise awareness of the important role zoos play in international tiger conservation. We invite you to discover the animal kingdom at BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo, including elephants, giraffes, rhinos and alligators. Visitors can enjoy the new Flamingo Cove and Giants of the Islands, featuring the Zoo’s Chilean flamingos and Galapagos and Aldabra tortoises, as well as the Safari Playground, the Otter Pond, our exhibit featuring a replicated fishing cabin with underwater viewing of the otters, L'aquarium de Louisiane, Parrot Paradise and KidsZoo. No visit is complete without a ride on the Cypress Bayou Railroad. Adults and children can take a scenic ride through the unique Louisiana habitat that surrounds the core zoo.
